Feb 6 - Feb 7 Nan Jacobsohn's Figurative Clay Workshop
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Nan is an incredible artist, who just this past year was featured locally at the Magical Muse (now Spicer & Co) and ART Upstairs; she is also an experienced and inspirational teacher, who has taught at the Appalachian Center for Craft and Mid South Ceramics, among many others.

Have a look at her description of the workshop, and see if you'd like to join the group in her White County studio.

Fee, including clay, is $125.

Figurative Workshop

The human figure is a powerful image in art and one of the most complex because of the messages that are conveyed by the smallest of gesture and expression. Spend a weekend exploring the basics on how to work with the figure in clay using a virtual model. We will be studying simple anatomy and proportion, but also touch on things like suggested clothing, hair etc. For those unaccustomed to working with clay, we will discuss hollowing, firing schedules, finishes etc.. The idea of using the figure to tell a story in combination with objects or animals will also be a focus.

Materials List for Figurative Workshop

25 lbs. of raku or sculpture clay (This is provided in the fee)
A wooden or plastic bat (Any kind of board to move a piece around on ie.
Turntable optional but desirable (lazy susan)
cutting wire

Loop tool (medium size & small are handy) for hollowing out figure

Brush for slip
Container for slip (reuse an empty margarine container)
Container for water
Sponge
