Education is this year's theme, celebrating the 100th chartered anniversary of Baxter Seminary and the 50th anniversary of Upperman High School.
This year's Parade of the Proud grand marshal will be Greg Gonzales. Greg Gonzales is a Baxter native who now serves as commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions.
Other activities will include a 5K Run, vintage car show, vendor booths, live music, auction with proceeds supporting the Baxter Medical Clinic and more.

The Highlands – a regional public/private sector initiative between Overton, Putnam and White counties – is partnering with Tennessee Tech University, the League of Women Voters of Tennessee and Nashville’s WTVF NewsChannel5 to produce a non-partisan general election debate for Tennessee’s 2010 gubernatorial candidates. The town-hall-style debate will offer a unique focus on hometown economic development, education and health care needs.
To be a part of the debate action, Tennesseans are encouraged to submit questions by video or in written form on this Web site. You may also submit video questions via YouTube. Remember that your questions must be on hometown issues– those mostly affecting rural and suburban areas of Tennessee. Also, inappropriate language and personal attacks on the candidates are not allowed.
And don’t forget to follow the Highlands Town Hall Debate on Facebook and Twitter for key updates leading up to September 14.

Proceeds support the activities of Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers. Appointed by the court to provide in-depth, independent research on a case of child abuse and neglect, Advocates follow their assigned case until its closing, focusing on the best possible outcome for the child.
