Cumberland Art Society

The Appalachian Center for Craft
The Gallery is one of the finest and most diverse sales galleries in the Southeast and features traditional and contemporary fine craft by faculty, resident artists, advanced students and more than 100 regional craft artists. In this 550-acre facility overlooking Center Hill Lake, visitors will find hand-blown glass, pottery, ceramic, fabrics, iron and metal pieces, hand-crafted wooden items, and many more treasures. You can also take a workshop and learn how to make your own masterpiece. The center is administered by Tennessee Tech University. At the Appalachian Center for Craft, a satellite campus of Tennessee Tech University (TTU), our students explore diverse options in professional craft studies. The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is the centerpiece of the Craft Center's academic programs.
The center promotes excellence in American craft by teaching tradition and innovation in technique, concept and design. It provides access to the highest quality craft education, professional artists, and career opportunities.
It offers students the option of five Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or Craft Certificate concentrations: clay, fibers, glass, metals and wood. The center's BFA program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Workshop Programs
Over 100 workshops are offered each year in blacksmithing, clay, fibers, glass, metals and wood; also available are drawing, painting, and photography classes. Evening and weekend classes are available during the fall and spring semesters; 5-day intensive workshops are offered during the summer.
Gallery and Exhibitions
The Craft Center is home to one of the premier retailers of fine craft in the Southeast. The Gallery features contemporary and traditional fine craft by Craft Center artists and more than 100 regional craft artists. The Craft Center hosts up to 25 exhibitions annually. These shows range from the works of regional, national and international contemporary craft artists, to our faculty, resident artists and student BFA exhibitions.
Artist in Residence Programs
The Craft Center has six resident artist positions. Residents in clay, fibers, glass, metals, wood and exhibitions, are selected during a highly competitive process. The program allows emerging professional craft artists to live and work in the environment of the Craft Center.
Meeting Space
Space is available to reserve to hold meetings in the beautiful, relaxing environment of the center. The center is a unique place to plan retreats, meetings and special gatherings. They are equipped with a large conference room, two audio/visual rooms for breakout sessions and full-service, on-site catering by the Walkway Cafe.
Our conference room is 1,280 square feet and can accommodate groups up to 75 people. The audio visual rooms are 914 square feet and 595 square feet. Rooms can be arranged to each groups' specifications.
Room Usage Fees: $50 per room/per day
Catering Policy: The Walkway Cafe has an exclusive contract with the Craft Center. No outside catering permitted.
Housing: Craft Center housing is for students only. If your group requires lodging, please see the list of local accommodations.
Shopping: Visiting the exhibitions and gallery at the Craft Center can be a great break during meetings. Daily hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
